Gail Martin has spent nearly 20 years in corporate and consulting roles working with nonprofit and for-profit organizations including companies like Duke Energy, CarolinaHome.com and Signet Bank. Her new book,
"30 Days to Social Media Marketing Success", is about using various social marketing tools like blogging, twitter, and facebook to promote your company. What's clear in the book is that social marketing is not a miracle tool. It takes work and commitment. Gail gives you the how to if you're ready and willing to make it work. I found her
"rule of thirty" really helpful. It gets you involved from the first chapter. Before I started each chapter I was already working on my
"rule of thirty" from the chapter before. I also liked her idea of your "irresistible difference", why you instead of your competitors, and identifying your "real story". Gail's book starts at the very beginning, giving context to your marketing approach before you move into social marketing. And where better to start than your business plan. But Gail takes a fresh approach to the business plan as a source for your marketing strategy. 30 minutes of marketing for 30 days - "30" seems to be Gail's lucky number - or yours if you happen to read this book.
