NewsonWomen reports 246 Women appointed to Boards of Directors of Major Companies so far in 2012, despite August Slowdown.

23 Women were appointed to Boards of Directors in August, 2012, a drop from the 30 appointed in July 2012 and also below the 26 appointed in August 2011. It is also the lowest monthly total in 2012. Is this an end to our trend of increasing numbers of women appointed to Boards of Directors? Or is it just a summer slowdown? I'm hoping it's the latter, but we'll have to wait until the September numbers are in to know more. Year to date, 246 women have been appointed to major Boards of Directors. Major companies appointing women to their Boards in August included Cisco, who appointed Dr. Kristina M. Johnson (pictured) - CEO of Enduring Hydro, LLC and former Under Secretary of Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy, to its Board of Directors. Other companies appointing women in August were Bank of America, who appointed two women to its Board; Becton, Dickinson & Co; XO Group; EMC; BB&T Corp; American Electric Power; and Coach.
