In September, NewsonWomen reported on 31 women appointed to a corporate Board of Directors seat. This gives us a total of 277 women appointed to Boards so far in 2012, almost 30% ahead of 2011. If this pace keeps up we are set for a record breaking year of appointments! The third quarter total is ahead of 3rd quarter 2011, which was ahead of 2010, striking a three year positive trend of women appointments. Major companies appointing women to Boards included Baxter International, T. Rowe Price, Teledyne, Medtronic, Verifone, Vonage Holdings, U.S. Stationers, News Corp, and ICF International. Also in September, Ginni Rometty (pictured), CEO of IBM, was appointed Chairman of the IBM Board of Directors. I have to agree with Fortune Magazine, who made Ginni Number #1 on their "Most Powerful Women in Business" list.
